The fishing companion that comes along every time.
MinFangst knows the water you are standing by, works out when the fish are biting, and remembers everything you have caught. Map, bite forecast and logbook in one app, even when you have no signal.
The places and species are entered and maintained by us. The place data is built on public sources such as Kartverket, NVE and the Norwegian Environment Agency.
The map
Tap the water and see the conditions
The map covers all of Norway. Every lake, every river and every sea area opens a card with what we know about the place: the water temperature right now, the fish species recorded there, whether fishing is prohibited or a licence is required, whether the river carries salmon, and the catches you have made there before.
With Premium you add depth charts on top of the map, see water flow and water level from NVE's gauging stations, and get weather, tides and a bite score for the place you choose.
You switch between aerial imagery and the drawn map, and search for a lake or a species to see where it has been recorded.
The logbook
Log your fishing trips
Record a session, a single catch or a fish you merely saw, in seconds. The app suggests the place from where you are standing and saves the conditions of the trip for you, so you never fill in more than you feel like. Fish you enter while a session is running get their own point where you stand, so you see where each fish was actually caught, not just where the trip began. The logbook gathers sessions, catches, species and sightings in one list you can search and filter by type and period.
The map, the logbook and recording all work without a signal. Everything you enter while out of range syncs once you are back online.
Friends
Fish together with your friends
Add the friends you fish with. In the feed you see the catches, sightings and new species they have chosen to share. The scoreboard ranks you on most catches, most species and longest and heaviest fish, for the week, the month, the year or for as long as you have been members.
Fishing spots are personal, we understand that. That is why you choose visibility on every single catch and sighting, and if you would rather be left alone, you turn sharing off in the privacy settings. MinFangst is then a purely private fishing log with no Friends tab, and you do not appear in searches.
The species library
271 fish species in the Nordics
The whole species library is in the app, with a picture of most species and the family they belong to. The species you catch are collected automatically in your species collection, and the map shows which species have been recorded in each water.
The map, the species and the logbook are free. Premium adds the planning: a fishing forecast hour by hour, likely species in the water, weather, tides, water flow, depth charts and alerts when conditions turn good, so you know both when and where the fish are biting.

Questions and answers
What people ask
Did not find the answer you were looking for? Write to us at kontakt@minfangst.no and we will get back to you. We read everything ourselves, and usually reply quickly.
Suggestions, faults and wishes can also be sent straight from the app, under Help and info in your profile.
Is MinFangst free?
Yes. You can log sessions, catches and sightings, use the map across the whole country, see which fish species have been recorded in each water, check the water temperature, collect species and achievements, and use friends and the scoreboard entirely free. Premium is an optional addition with the planning tools.
What does Premium cost, and can I cancel?
Premium costs 49 NOK a month, or 399 NOK for a whole year if you want it cheaper per month. Both come with a 7 day free trial. You can cancel at any time in the App Store or Google Play, and you keep Premium for the rest of the period you have paid for.
Does the app work without a signal?
Yes, and that includes the map. Lakes, rivers and place names live in the app, so you can see which water you are standing by wherever you are. You can record sessions, catches and sightings offline, and everything syncs once you are back online. Aerial imagery and roads still need a connection.
How private are my fishing spots?
You choose visibility on every single catch and sighting: friends see it, friends see it without which water it was, or you keep it to yourself. Friends see species, size, photo, date and which water it was, never the time of day, the note, the bait, the weather or the exact point where you stood. If you fished at a waterfall or a named pool, the river is what is shown. If you take part in the shared species data, the species is submitted anonymously with no link to you, and the point is rounded to about 50 metres first. If you would rather not share anything at all, you turn sharing off in the privacy settings.
Can I use MinFangst at sea?
Yes. The coast is divided into 2,014 named sea areas, from the Oslofjord to the Varangerfjord. You can tap straight on the sea in the map or search for the area, and record a catch there just as in any other water. The sea temperature is free, as in any water, and with Premium you also get the tides for the area.
Which devices and languages are supported?
MinFangst is free to download for both iPhone (iOS) and Android. The app is available in Norwegian, Swedish and English, and you change language under Profile and Settings.
Who is behind it
Built in Norway, by people who fish themselves
MinFangst is developed in Norway and built for Nordic conditions from the first line of code: the lakes and the rivers, the species that swim in them and the coast beyond. The app is funded by Premium memberships, not by advertising or by selling data.
Do you have a suggestion, have you found a fault, or are you missing a water or a species? Send us a message straight from the app, or write to kontakt@minfangst.no. We answer ourselves, and usually quickly.
